CANCER HEALTH

A cancer diagnosis can be a scary and isolating experience, but the experts at City of Hope Cancer Center in northern Illinois, just south of the state line, are dedicated to helping patients through it. With appointments available in as little as 24 hours, the center’s comprehensive approach to care provides patients with a personalized treatment plan.

The hospital’s multidisciplinary team collaborates with patients and their loved ones to ensure patients understand their journey and can make informed decisions about their care. City of Hope also offers an online Risk Management tool to provide screening and lifestyle recommendations. Visit rmt.cancercenter.com to learn more or take the assessment.

EYE HEALTH

Stress and lack of sleep can lead to eye strain, dryness, blurred vision and increased sensitivity to light while exasperating existing eye issues. Dr. Michael Raciti of Eye Care Specialists recommends mindfulness practices like meditation and yoga to reduce eye strain and fatigue as a foundation of maintaining eye health. “Get regular eye exams to detect issues early,” he says.

“A diet rich in omega-3s, vitamins C and E, lutein, and zinc will help. Always wear UV-protective sunglasses and reduce screen time. These steps help ensure long-term eye health and prevent age-related vision loss.”

MENTAL HEALTH

Wauwatosa’s CLARA Healing Institute offers a multifaceted approach to mental health care for women. Their team of therapists can help ease the emotional impact of perimenopause and menopause, relationship fluctuations, career changes, divorce and myriad other life circumstances.

“We have a signature group here called Radical Self Love which is very popular with women at midlife,” says Kristin Belkofer, founder and clinical director at CLARA. “It focuses on dismantling the impact that diet culture, sexism, racism and societal pressure have on women’s relationships with their bodies.”

WOMEN’S HEALTH

The non-invasive treatment called Emsella, also known as the “Kegel throne” treats mild to moderate incontinence and improves sexual wellness. Emsella is a series of six non-invasive, non-surgical treatments – you stay fully clothed the entire time – with two days in between each 28-minute session. Emsella treats the pelvic floor by delivering thousands of contractions with high-intensity, focused electromagnetic technology. One session can produce 12,000 contractions, the equivalent of 12,000 Kegel exercises. The results are instantaneous and continuous, and you can immediately return to all normal activities.

Financial Well-Being

We spoke to Tasha Bremel, Vice President – Wealth Management at The Burish Group at UBS Financial Services Inc., about how women can bolster their financial health.

As people are considering retirement, what are some common concerns they face during this transition?

There’s a lot of emotion involved when transitioning from working and saving to retirement, where people begin using the assets they’ve accumulated. Key questions often include: Am I ready to retire emotionally and financially? Do I have enough savings? Will I outlive my savings? How much should I withdraw from my savings? This shift from accumulating wealth to spending and creating withdrawal strategies can be overwhelming. Working with a financial advisor during this transition can provide essential guidance and peace of mind.
