Annual charity golf event is in support of providing mental health care for young people in crisis across Northern Ontario

Sudbury’s annual Golf Marathon has stepped up with a $25,000 donation to the Health Sciences North (HSN) Foundation, in support of the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Program (CAMHP).

This is an essential service that provides care for youth in crisis across Northeastern Ontario, said a news release.

The latest contribution reflects the Golf Marathon Sudbury’s ongoing commitment to supporting children’s health in the Greater Sudbury area, said the release.

Funds raised through the 2025 event will help the CAMHP continue offering a safe and supportive environment for children and youth under 18 who are experiencing severe mental health challenges, including suicidal thoughts, acute psychotic episodes, and post-traumatic stress reactions.

Of the total $25,000 donation, the release said valued community partners played a significant role in amplifying the impact:

  • Definity Insurance Foundation contributed $5,000;
  • Intact Community Partnership Fund contributed $10,000.

“Supporting children’s mental health is one of the most meaningful ways we can give back to our community,” said Jean-Paul Rains, chair of the Golf Marathon Sudbury.

“The CAMHP team at HSN provides life-changing care for young people and their families, and we’re proud that our donors help ensure this critical work continues.”

Anthony Keating, president and CEO of the HSN Foundation, was also pleased with the effort.

“We are incredibly grateful to the Golf Marathon Sudbury for their outstanding generosity and continued commitment to supporting youth mental health,” said Keating.

“Their $25,000 donation to the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Program will help ensure that young people in our region have access to the care and support they need, close to home, by bettering their environment and supporting the programs they rely on for care.

“Community partners like the Golf Marathon truly make a lasting difference, and we are so thankful for their dedication to helping children and families across Northeastern Ontario.”

The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Program at HSN provides specialized, priority care for youth in crisis, helping them stabilize, recover, and rebuild. Donations such as this one provide funds to supply the unit with additional resources and add artistic murals to the spaces. The Golf Marathon Sudbury thanks all participants, sponsors, and donors whose generosity made this contribution possible, said the release.
