CFUW Orillia will celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD) on March 8, 2025, with an event titled Women’s Wellness: Mind, Body and Spirit.
Guest speaker Dr. Eleanor Gittens, a professor at Georgian College, will discuss how to breathe, cultivate mindfulness, and reduce stress to be more resilient in facing life’s challenges.
International Women’s Day is celebrated globally each year. IWD celebrates women’s achievements, raises awareness about discrimination and takes action to forge gender parity.
The event will provide networking opportunities and a chance to connect with like-minded individuals committed to supporting women’s rights. CFUW Orillia invites the community to participate in this celebration of women’s accomplishments and future aspirations.
“International Women’s Day is a time to celebrate progress while acknowledging the work still needed to achieve gender equality,” said Heather Lewis, president of CFUW Orillia. “We are delighted to welcome Dr. Gittens to Orillia to inspire attendees to take meaningful action towards empowerment.”
Doors will open at 10 a.m. at Creative Nomad Studios, 23 Mississaga St. W., Orillia, and non-members are welcome to purchase tickets for $10 at tinyurl.com/CFUWOrilliaIWD2025. Pre-registration is encouraged. This event is generously sponsored by Coralee Monaghan Interiors.
Dr. Eleanor Gittens joined Georgian College in 2014 as a professor in the honours bachelor of police studies degree program within the community safety academic area. Recognizing the power of mindfulness and intentional breathing, Eleanor advocates these practices as tools for enhancing focus, reducing stress, and promoting resilience at any age. She believes that by cultivating mindfulness, individuals can better navigate life’s challenges and optimize their health in every aspect of life.
