10 things we know about Sabrina Carpenter’s wellness routine
Sabrina Carpenter might only be 25, but between touring the world, modelling for Kim K’s brand Skims, and creating her own perfume, the singer has also cemented a solid relationship with exercise. In an interview with Marie Claire, she said she fits training in around her life.
‘I’m a little [casual] with exercise,’ she said. ‘It’s not an every day thing by any means, but I try to balance it out however I can, and at least once or twice a week do something a little bit more disciplined. I will take a class of some sort, or do a workout at home.’ She’s also shared a few insights into exactly what classes and workouts she goes for.
Read on for everything we know, including what she does to relax and recover, and her go-to drink (not espresso, surprisingly).
1.She uses infrared saunas
Carpenter recently took to Instagram to share a photo of herself using an at-home infrared sauna, which she tagged as a purchase from US home sauna brand Sun Home Saunas. There’s a distinct lack of research into the benefits behind infrared saunas specifically, but some studies have shown that they could relieve DOMS, while other research shows that the heat felt in an infrared sauna could cause your heart rate to increase and blood vessels to widen, therefore increasing circulation and encouraging muscle recovery from endurance training.
In her interview with Marie Claire, Carpenter said that when she does train, she likes to go to ‘Pilates sometimes with friends of mine’. She shared this snap of herself doing reformer Pilates with a friend at home, while fans have previously sparked speculation that she trains with Alo Yoga instructor Rebekah Santiago since the pair follow one another on Instagram.
Both mat and reformer Pilates have their pros, but experts say that reformer could be superior for working on your balance and coordination – not just strength – since you’re forced to control the reformer carriage. Justin Rogers, Head of Brand at Ten Health & Fitness, told us, ‘With the combination of adjustable spring resistance and a sliding platform, the reformer can create resistance or instability (or both) to make exercises easier or harder in a way that the mat can’t.’
3. She gets her steps in
Carpenter often shares snaps of herself enjoying a walk while travelling (a solid form of NEAT exercise), and if anyone knows the benefits of racking up a decent step count, it’s us. When we asked one writer to take on a 30-minute daily walk every day for a month, they found that not only did their stress levels reduce, their core strength increased.
In a video shot at members-only US gym chain Dogpound, Carpenter is seen performing glute kickbacks, deadlifts, squats and fire hydrants – all while wearing ankle weights.
5. She trains with her sister Sarah
In the same video, Carpenter is seen with her sister, Sarah. Speaking to Marie Claire, she says, ‘I love working out with friends, because it makes me feel like I’m not working out.’
6. She rides horses
While on holiday in Europe, Carpenter shared a video of herself riding a horse. It’s not known whether this is a regular feature in her routine, but studies show that benefits run the gamut from core strength to better balance.
7. She practices gratitude
Talking specifically to her mental health, she told Marie Claire: ‘I do try to list things that I’m grateful for first thing in the morning, just so I can start off my day hopefully in an attempt to make it more positive, before anything else kind of gets into my head. It actually has [benefitted] my days a lot, just by taking those couple seconds to do that, because I think otherwise it’s very easy to read something that is either good or bad news, but it just affects you in a weird way.’
8. She takes baths
Besides music, baths are her favourite form of self-care. ‘I do love a bath,’ she told MC. ‘I think baths have been a life-saver to me, and again, music. Writing music has been my self-care. If I’m alone and I’m really stressed, I will be at my piano for hours on end.’
9. She doesn’t watch TV
And while we’re forever working on her screen time, Carpenter’s got it nailed. ‘I can’t remember the last time I watched a TV show,’ she revealed to MC. ‘By the end of the day, I feel like I’ve used up everything I have, so I just love sleep and getting to sleep as quickly as I can.’
10. She’s not big on coffee
Speaking to The Strategist, she said she prefers yerba mate (a herbal tea that contains caffeine) to standard coffee, because ‘coffee can be a little hard to finish. It’s heavier, whereas this is a lot lighter’. She added that yerba mate ‘tastes like sweeter mint tea and feels like I’m doing a two-for-one: mouthwash and drinking something I enjoy.’
